Lily Moon Sustainability Lodge : Lily Moon Infrastructure
Lily Moon Sustainability Lodge will be sustainable in its infrastructure as well as its programs. Once we’ve been able to raise enough greenbacks from our 1% donation of every Primal Echo product sale, along with grant seed money and kind donations from folks and companies who are inspired by our project, we’ll partner with the local community and acquire land so we can build Lily Moon using sustainable construction practices in southern Costa Rica.
Technical training and fair–labor compensation practices will be employed to build this non–profit project, and it will be built using local, sustainable materials and infrastructure as well as alternative energy systems.
While the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system doesn’t offer specific credits for passive systems for sustainable design because specific environmental and contextual standards are lacking in the credits, Lily Moon Sustainability Lodge will incorporate both active and passive systems to ensure a highly effective design.
Some of these designs will combine our passion for play and for doing good. For example, Camp Eco Tico kids will have an opportunity to learn about sustainable energy management through play on a merry–go–round, a zip line and a swing set.
A product line developed by a non–profit in collaboration with Brigham Young University, the merry–go–round uses state–of–the–art electronic controllers, wind power generators and speed–increasing gearboxes. The merry–go–round is designed to convert a portion of the kinetic energy from children at play to usable electrical power.
